The Brown hat was given to me from a lovey woman at the farmer’s market with the challenge of copying it, and writing down the pattern, which had been lost. This is my version of the hat. It is not exact, but very close to the original. Enjoy!
WW yarn J 6.0mm hook
Important: do not join rounds, mark last stitch in each rnd as you work down the hat until you reach rnd 31
Note: rnds 4-6 as you pass the end of the round make as many hdc ch1 before increasing as will be in the next round, this will have you end up with 79sts
Start w/a Magic ring (or chain 5join w/ss to form a ring) leave a 6- 8inch tail of yarn
Rnd1 Ch1,11sc in ring (do not join) (12sc)
Rnd2 2 hdc in each sc around (do not join) (24hdc) Rnd3 hdc ch1 in each hdc around (do not join) (48 sts , 24 hdc, 24 ch1 spaces)
Rnd 4 *hdc ch1 in next 2 ch1 spaces, increase: “hdc ch1 2times in next ch1 sp”*around (do not join)
Rnd 5 *hdc ch1 in next 3 ch1 spaces, increase: “hdc ch1 2times in next ch1 sp”* around (do not join)
Rnd 6 *hdc ch1 in next 4 ch1 spaces, increase: “hdc ch1 2times in next ch1 sp”* around (do not join)
Rnds 7-19 hdc ch1 in each ch1 space around moving your stitch marker down at the end of each rnd (do not join)
Rim: Rnd 20 sc in each st around 2 sc in last st ( 80 sc) I switched to supersaver and an I hook here.
Rnds 21-30 sc in each sc around, (do not join)
Turn hat inside out and fold sc rim section in half matching up first and last of sc sections
Rnd 31 *sc in next 2 sc pushing hook through into first round of sc to join the rim sections ch 8*, around, join w/ ss to first sc
Rnds 32-36 ss to middle of 1st chain8 space, *2sc in ch 8 sp, ch8* around, join w ss to 1stsc.
Ss to center of 1st ch8 sp, end here and cut yarn leaving a 3-4 foot tail attached
Pull the tail of yarn from the beginning of the hat through the center hole, loop yarn around your pinky and weave in and out of the center tying securely to make a small loop at the top of the hat. Now take the tail from the last rnd of the hat and pass it through the center loop you just made, and through the next ch8 space, do this all the way around drawing the ch8 loops up to the center of the hat, when all of the loops have been brought up, adjust how tight the loops are pulled up , tie the 2 tails together securely, trim and weave in ends.
